Continued self-improvement

Wendy and Lewis Frazier moved to Finley six years ago in pursuit of a new stage in their lives.

Proximity to family was one of the primary factors for the move, but for Wendy access to facilities that would allow her to continue self-improvement was just as important.

Finley TAFE suited that bill, and Wendy again added to her skill set with support from its staff last month.

To add to her role with the Finley/Tocumwal Uniting Church, she completed a first aid course.

“My reason for doing this course at TAFE was that I am a lay-preacher with the Finley/Tocumwal Uniting Church and we needed to have a first aid officer in our ranks,” she siad.

“I was anxious about my ability to pass and I was hesitant about doing such a practical ‘hands on’ course at this time because of the rules of physical distancing in a group situation. However I had no need to worry.

“The group size and the room dimension accommodated the requirements for COVID Safety.”

“The teacher presented the course in an extremely refreshing way.

“I have done this course many times, but this time I was very impressed. The delivery was very concise and clear with regard to administering CPR and the knowledge to recognise shock and its symptoms.

“I left the course empowered and feeling enabled with regard to my responsibilities if I am ever faced with the need to administer these skills.”

The Fraziers came to Finley from Cootamundra where they had worked in a busy tourism business for nearly a decade.

And while they loved it, there were looking for a community that would offer the ‘whole package’.

“We moved here to retire after our children left home and we had been in a seven day a week tourism related business for almost 10 years,” Wendy said.

“My mother was at Urana at the time, and is now in Finley, and our youngest daughter was at Yarrawonga.

“The opportunity to be able to re-skill or upgrade without having to travel was one of the biggest factors to moving here.”
