I’M ACTUALLY QUITE EXCITED TO REPORT THAT RECENTLY FEWER MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY HAVE ANSWERED OUR CALLS AND SOME HAVE EVEN TREATED OUR STAFF VERY DISRESPECTFULLY AND ABUSIVELY JUST THAT PEOPLE HANG UP OR THEY WILL YELL AT US THAT THERE’S NO SUCH THING AND SO IT’S VARIOUS COMMENTS. THAT IS ALLEGHENY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR. DR. DEBORAH BOGAN YESTERDAY ANNOUNCING A RISE IN COVID CASES AND WHILE SHE DELIVERED THOSE REMARKS VISITORS WILL THE WTAE-TV FACEBOOK PAGE MADE DISPARAGING COMMENTS ABOUT FOLLOWING THE PANDEMIC PROTOCOLS JACQUELINE — COURSE SAID DON’T LET THEM CONTROL YOUR OWN HOUSE. THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT DOESN’T ANYONE SEE THIS CARL KYLE SAID LOCKDOWN COMING GET READY TO DEAL WITH THE SOCIALISM NORMAL. Allegheny county leaders in health care and government say the bulk of the region is complying with efforts to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, but there’s still an alarming number of people who mock efforts and represent an obstacle.Allegheny County’s Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen went as far as saying staff members are treated harshly by some members of the public who act in defiance, “I’m actually quite sad to report that recently, that fewer members of our community have answered our calls, and some have even treated our staff disrespectfully and abusively.”Bogen announced Thursday that weekly COVID numbers have tripled over the past month, and that two people die for every 100 cases, yet people mock the effort to control the pandemic: “Just that people will hang up and they will yell at us, that there’s no such thing, and various comments.”Dr. Arvind Venkat, an emergency physician for Allegheny Health Network rebuffs members of the public who act defiantly. “We want to live as normal a life as possible, so we have to wear masks, we have to practice social distancing and we have to avoid crowded areas, especially indoor crowded areas. There’s really no alternative.”Venkat says fighting the pandemic requires an entire community response. “I think when we’re talking about public health, we have to recognize what I do affects you and what you do affects me. With an infectious disease, there’s no such thing as I’m only taking care of myself, so public health officials and public health messaging is meant to protect all of us,” said Venkat.
