A batch of leftover pizza dough one day transformed into these incredible homemade breadsticks! They are simple to make and perfect for enjoying solo or dipping into soup or whatever your heart desires. Move over Olive Garden – you have competition!
How to Make Homemade Breadsticks
Admittedly, this recipe happened by accident. I was left with a batch of extra pizza dough and a big pot of Tomato Soup that needed a little something served on the side. Not one to waste food, I simply rolled out the dough, cut into strips, twisted and baked until golden brown. I topped with melted butter fresh out the oven and sprinkled with parmesan and seasonings. This part is where the recipe can be adaptable! Some seasoning that would taste great here are Italian, Everything Bagel, different grated cheese, or even cinnamon and brown sugar! The possibilities are endless.
How to Serve Breadsticks
These breadsticks hot out of the oven are perfect all on their own. But if you want to take things to a new level, serve them alongside some marinara or pizza sauce as an appetizer, or with your favourite soup. I dipped these (generously) into this Roasted Tomato Soup and it was a match made in heaven. They would also be a showy addition to your next pasta dinner. Come to think of it, there isn’t a time I wouldn’t invite these breadsticks to the table!
Homemade Bread Recipes
Baking homemade bread is one of my all-time favourite things to do. Truly. I find the process therapeutic, and the end product is always so appreciated by my family. It is a special thing to be able to make something from scratch with a little elbow grease and a whole lot of love. I used a classic of mine (homemade pizza dough) for this recipe, but my white bun recipe would also work. Some of my other favourites bread recipes include:
