OSU to establish children’s environmental health research center

Oregon State University is a public research university in Corvallis, Oregon, United States. The university offers over 150 undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as professional and continuing education programs. OSU is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university with over $1 billion in research funding. The university also has a broad international presence, with more than 30 cooperative agreements with universities in more than 20 countries.

-Children’s Environmental Health and the OSU Campus

Introduction The Ohio State University campus is a large and busy place. It’s home to a large population of students, faculty, and staff, as well as many different types of animals and plants. Many people don’t think about how the environment affects their health, but it’s important to do so. This paper will discuss how children’s environmental health is important, and how the OSU campus affects children’s health. It will also discuss ways that the OSU campus can improve its environmental health. Children’s Environmental Health Children’s environmental health is the health of children’s bodies and minds as they interact with their environment. This includes everything from the air they breathe to the water they drink. There are a lot of ways the environment can affect a child’s health. For example, the air children breathe can contain a lot of pollution.

-Pollution in Ohio

Ohio has a high rate of air pollution. The Ohio Department of Health estimates that in 2007, almost one-third of Ohioans lived in counties with unhealthy levels of air pollution. In 2008, the most recent year for which data is available, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that air pollution levels in Ohio were above the federal health standards for ozone and particulate matter more than half of the time. Air pollution consists of a variety of gases and particles that can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and other health problems. Sources of air pollution include vehicles, factories, power plants, and natural sources like smog and dust storms. Air pollution can be reduced by reducing the number of vehicles on the road, planting trees, and using energy more efficiently.

-OSU’s Green Infrastructure

OSU’s Green Infrastructure is a comprehensive plan that details how the university will reduce its environmental impact. The plan includes measures to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the use of renewable energy. The goal of the Green Infrastructure is to make OSU a leader in sustainability efforts, and to improve the environment for students, faculty, and staff. The Green Infrastructure was developed in response to the United States Green Building Council’s LEED Silver certification standards.

  • The buildings section of the Green Infrastructure focuses on reducing the amount of energy used in campus buildings. OSU plans to install solar panels and wind turbines, and to improve the insulation of its buildings. The goal is to reduce the university’s energy usage by 20 percent by
  • The transportation section of the Green Infrastructure focuses on reducing the university’s carbon footprint from transportation. OSU plans to install electric vehicles and bike lanes, and to improve the efficiency of its transportation systems. The goal is to reduce the university’s carbon footprint by 50 percent by
  • The waste section of the Green Infrastructure focuses on reducing the university’s waste output. OSU plans to create a recycling program, and to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfills. The goal is to reduce the university’s waste output by 50 percent by
  • The resources section of the Green Infrastructure focuses on increasing the use of sustainable resources. OSU plans to increase the amount of forest land that it owns, and to increase the use of solar, wind, and water resources. The goal is to increase the university’s resource consumption by 20 percent by
  • The outreach section of the Green Infrastructure focuses on educating students, faculty, and staff about the importance of sustainability. OSU plans to create a sustainability center, and to promote sustainability initiatives throughout the university. The goal is to increase the awareness of sustainability within the university community.

    -The OSU Campus Sustainability Plan

The Ohio State University Campus Sustainability Plan (CSP) is a document that outlines the university’s goals, objectives, and strategies for sustainable campus operations. The CSP was created in response to Ohio State’s 2012 Campus Sustainability Report Card, which graded the university on its sustainability performance. The CSP was approved by the Board of Trustees in December 2013 and was updated in December

    • The CSP is divided into five sections: vision, mission, values, goals, and objectives. The vision section outlines the university’s overall goals for sustainability, while the mission section sets out the specific objectives that the university intends to achieve. The values section establishes the principles upon which the university operates, and the goals section outlines the specific actions that the university plans to take in order to achieve its objectives. Finally, the objectives section lists all of the specific sustainability goals that the university has set out, as well as any associated targets and timelines. The CSP is a comprehensive document that covers a wide range of topics relating to sustainability.

Oregon State University should be the beneficiary of a children’s environmental health research center. The center would focus on improving the health of children by understanding the environmental factors that impact their health. The research center would also aim to identify ways to reduce children’s exposure to harmful environmental chemicals.
